Two Fort Bragg paratroopers were killed Thursday by three Afghans in Kandahar province, the 82nd Airborne Division said Saturday.
Staff Sgt. Jordan Bear, 25, of Denver and Spc. Payton Jones, 19, of Marble Falls, Texas, were infantrymen with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team.
They were killed when two Afghan National Army service members and a civilian literacy teacher for the Afghan National Army fired at the paratroopers from a guard tower at the Sang-e-Sar outpost, according to the U.S. military and the Associated Press.
