George Vogel, 62, who lives just north of Omaha, drove his Ford F150 past the protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church, stuck his hand out the window and sprayed them with pepper spray.

He is now facing 16 counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony assault on a police officer for the pepper-spray exposure, as well as one count of child neglect because his child was in the truck.

George Vogel is facing 16 counts of misdemeanor assault for doing something, IMHO, should have been done long ago.

Big high five to George Vogel. Hopefully, there is a legal defense fund in the works for him, as well as for all who finally put the hideous, hateful Phelps 'family' in their place.

I truly can't wait till their "minister" kicks the bucket! I and about 4,000 others will gladly fly to his funeral and protest!

And I'd challenge the PD to arrest all of us!

I say WAY TO GO MR. VOGEL!

Anti

In a perfect world that would happen. But even when those passages were written, what is described / told, was far from the norm.

How about:

Do unto others, as you'd have them do unto you?

What's fair is fair! So I'll wait till the minister croaks and I'll be one of many who picket his or one of his family member's funerals!

I more than think it would drive the point home!

Eat it, Westboro Baptists! Whoever this guy is deserves props for doing this. These people can't be allowed to go around spewing their hate without some kind of repercussion, and in my eyes, they got what they deserved.

Its sad the Police and Media have to stand next to these haters and become victims. If the Westboro cult was sprayed with pepper spray more often they might move on to other targets.

Soldiers have always died even if we kicked all gays out of this country our soldiers would still die they would not become invincible. I don't even think anyone except the young children in that cult believe that. They need to be charged for child abuse. Look at the youtube videos of this church that shows 6 year olds singing gays need to die and God hates America and tell me its not child abuse. If you make a video of a 6 year old singing Blacks need to hang or singing weed how he loves weed Social Services would be at your house the next day.

Prefect example of the instigators becoming the "victim". I'm sure there is something in the realm of child protection that could be done.

    Brite,

The criminal act of assault can also refer to the threat of violence.

    from legaldictionary.com

assault 1) v. the threat or attempt to strike another, whether successful or not, provided the target is aware of the danger. The assaulter must be reasonably capable of carrying through the attack.

Student... I know the definition of assault, thanks :) ... but you know... I am so sick and tired of these wing nuts and their BS, that honestly, I think that something bad really should happen to them... just once. No... not once... repeatedly.

And the sad part is, if it did, if anything DID happen to them we would have to question the 1st Amendment's right to assmebly and speech. Isn't that sad? Isn't that frightening? That these people are protected by the Bill of Rights.

Every time they show up to protest at a funeral, everytime they open their mouths, it's so filled with hate, that you have to wonder how they manage to interact with normal people on a daily basis.

      Brite,

I too am tired of them, I've stood in my blues at more than one funeral, only to see their signs looming over the cemetery walls. It's disgusting that they are allowed to do what they do, moreso that I (and you if I recall correctly) defend their right to do so.

You're exactly right - the second we start restricting the most extreme of us from their Constitutional rights. We set a precedent. Just like with the mosque. Today it's mosques - tomorrow it's temples. The next day ? Churches.

"When you deny one man his freedoms, the denial of yours are soon to follow."

The answer is - they don't. They hate the US, but they whore it out for the protections it gives them. They know that if they were in any other country, they'd be shot on site.

Unfortunately, that will likely be the end result. Someone will finally snap, say 'damn the consequences' and go on a WBC killing spree.

And they have managed to avoid jail time too. Odd that. the things that make you go "Hmmm".

I really DO understand Mr. Vogel's frustration. I don't think he should be charged with 16 counts of assualt, though.

You're right, Student. They DO hate the US. It's almsot like they would like to see anyone not like them (and this includes the military and gays) rounded up and put away. I don't fear much, any more, but they scare the bejesus out of me.

          Student,

Like you I've stood at attention in my blues only to be bombarded with slurs and insults from them. What angers me is that while they shout their hatred for the US while under our Constitution they also do it claiming to be a church.

There are many veterans like myself who would gladly donate to his legal defense fund should he need it. Hooah, Mr.Vogel.
